Technology & Inspection

Purpose of Inspection

To ensure the mechanical integrity of stationary equipment in the refinery so that refinery production is unhindered and plant run smoothly without any unplanned outage.

Inspection is the backbone for safe and reliable plant operations and plays a pivotal role in achieving refinery production goals efficiently. Inspection monitors the static equipment functioning during plant operations and assesses the remaining life of these equipment in order to keep them in reliable condition.

In short, Inspection assures that the plant and storage tanks/ transportation pipelines are safe to operate within the integrity operating window which guarantees safe working environment and stable operating conditions for the refinery.

Domain of Inspection

Inspection section covers inspection of all stationary process equipment at plant which includes plant piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns, furnaces, reactors, steam boilers, storage tanks and their associated structure. Inspection section also inspects Intracity pipelines and is also maintaining cathodic protection system on these transportation pipelines.

Role of Inspection

Inspection section works under the umbrella of Technology & Inspection department. Inspection works in a planned manner with inspection plans in place for all stationary equipment at the refinery. Inspection plans are used to conduct periodic inspections/ monitor the in-service damages to the equipment and record these inspections on inspection performa/ inspection software. Based on inspection, work scope is generated for maintenance to carry out the required works in the upcoming planned shutdowns. PRL inspection section employs its own workforce and its own gadgets for the maximum inspection being done at plant, tanks and pipelines. PRL has also employed In-line inspection of its Intracity pipelines to know the health of its pipeline using In-line inspection tools.

PRL has its own qualified professionals having API/ ASNT/ CSWIP certifications in the field of pressure vessels, process piping, tank repairs, welding and non-destructive testing.
